Your doctor may request an ultrasound in Dubai for:
- Abdomen & hepatobiliary: liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, pancreas, spleen; right‑upper‑quadrant pain; follow‑up of liver lesions; ascites.
- Kidneys & urinary tract: stones, obstruction, infection complications; bladder volume.
- Pelvis & gynecology: uterus and ovaries; fibroids; ovarian cysts; pelvic pain; fertility work‑ups.
- Pregnancy (obstetric ultrasound): early dating/viability, first‑trimester screening as clinically indicated, anatomy survey, growth and amniotic fluid monitoring, placental position, cervical length where appropriate.
- Vascular ultrasound (Doppler): suspected deep‑vein thrombosis, varicose veins and reflux mapping, carotid arteries, abdominal aorta, peripheral arterial disease, dialysis access surveillance.
- Soft tissue & musculoskeletal: lumps and bumps, hernias, muscle tears, tendon pathology, joint effusions, dynamic impingement testing.
- Breast & thyroid: characterising palpable findings, guiding further work‑up; parathyroid localisation where indicated.
- Paediatrics: pyloric stenosis, intussusception screening, hips, testicular torsion assessment, renal tract.
If another modality (e.g., MRI or CT) would better answer the clinical question, we advise accordingly. The right test, at the right time, supports faster, safer care.
Arrival & check‑in
We confirm the body area(s) to be scanned and review any preparation you completed (e.g., fasting or a full bladder).
During the scan
You’ll lie on a comfortable couch while the sonographer or radiologist places warm gel on your skin and glides a probe over the area of interest. You may be asked to hold your breath, change position, or perform gentle movements so we can see structures clearly. For Doppler studies, you may see color maps and waveforms on the screen-this is your blood flow being measured.
Discomfort & duration
Ultrasound is generally painless. Some pressure can be felt over tender areas. Most exams take 15–30 minutes; complex or multi‑region studies may take longer.
After the scan
There is no downtime. You can return to normal activities immediately. Images are interpreted, and a structured report is sent to your referring clinician.
