What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a hands-on therapy technique performed by trained physiotherapists. It targets the fascia, the connective tissue surrounding and supporting muscles throughout the body. Injury, poor posture, stress, or overuse can cause fascia to become tight and form trigger points, leading to pain and stiffness.
During therapy, the therapist uses light, sustained pressure and gentle stretching on affected areas. The goal is to elongate and soften the fascia, allowing tight areas to release. This improves blood circulation and helps muscles and joints move more freely.
Unlike a regular massage, MFR hones in on specific tight spots in the fascia. This targeted approach is highly effective for treating chronic pain and areas of the body that feel rigid. MFR is widely used in physiotherapy to help patients recover from injuries, manage chronic pain, and regain normal movement.
