How long do dental implants last? Are they permanent?
Dental implants are designed to be a permanent solution. In fact, implants can last a lifetime with good care! The implant screw itself is made of titanium, which doesn’t decay and integrates with your bone. The crown or prosthetic on top may wear over many years (like a normal tooth would) but can be replaced if needed. At HealthHub, we provide a 10-year warranty on our implant treatments to underscore their durability. Just remember to maintain good oral hygiene (brushing, flossing) and regular dental check-ups – your implants will thank you by lasting for decades.
How long does it take to get a dental implant from start to finish?
The implant placement is done in a single visit (often in about an hour). If we’re doing a Same-Day Smile procedure, you’ll get a temporary tooth on that very day. After placing the implant, there is a healing period (typically 3-4 months) to allow the implant to bond with your bone – during this time you’ll have a temporary tooth so you’re never without a smile. Once healed, you’ll come back to have the permanent crown or bridge attached. In short, you get the implant in one day, and the final permanent tooth after the healing phase. Our team will guide you through the timeline based on your specific case.
Is the dental implant procedure painful?
No – the procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain during the implant placement. Our skilled dentists make sure you’re completely numb and comfortable. For anxious patients, we also offer sedation options to help you relax. After the surgery, you might have some mild soreness or swelling for a couple of days, but it’s usually very manageable with common pain relievers. Many patients are surprised at how minimal the discomfort is, often comparing it to a tooth extraction or less.
What exactly is a dental implant and how does it work?
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that serves as an artificial tooth root. It’s surgically placed into your jawbone where the original tooth was missing. Over a few months, the implant fuses with the bone, creating a strong foundation. We then attach a lifelike crown (or bridge/denture) on top. The result is a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions just like a natural tooth.
